I Have Become a Radical Lightworker

The Galactic Federation gives me progressive downloads

Regular listeners of Conspirituality Podcast will be familiar with the outsized impact of influencers who use “channelling” or “lightwork” to communicate their ideas about how COVID is a conspiracy offering spiritual opportunity, or that Donald Trump is a “lightworker”. The most prominent ones say that they are tuning into, receiving, and translating on behalf of “The Guides”, or “The Galactic Federation”.

As a researcher and journalist, I have always maintained skepticism towards these techniques. That is — until last week.

In a waking dream, the questions came to me:

• How do all of these “lightworkers” know what the Guides are really saying? Who is fact-checking the channels?
• How can I trust them?
• Why is it that their most illuminating ideas — which they claim come from Divine Source — always seem to line up with either MAGA or QAnon, or just shitty, run-of-the-mill neoliberal values?
• How do I honestly know that they’re not just pretending to have spiritual validation for their own mundane values?
